FAQ for Ouriginal
Here are frequently asked questions and answers about plagiarism review and Ouriginal.
What file formats does Ouriginal support?
Ouriginal supports the most common formats. To see which file formats Ouriginal supports, see the question "What file formats do you support when submitting?"(ouriginal.com) among their frequently asked questions.
It is recommended to limit the file formats to those supported by Ouriginal. Other file formats submitted to Ouriginal will result in an error message. Be clear in the assignment description, making it easier for the students to do the right thing.
Do the students need to do anything when submitting an assignment in Canvas?
When students submit their assignment, they must click a checkbox indicating that they confirm that they are submitting their own work. If they don't, they can't submit it. We recommend that you write in the assignment description that Ouriginal will review the assignment. Also, be clear about which file formats students should submit.
What happens when the student submits a new version of the text on an assignment in Canvas?
For example, if the same teacher creates the assignment for a re-exam, nothing special happens. When a student submits a new version of the text on an assignment in Canvas, Ouriginal handles this as a new version of the previous submission, as long as it is done in the same assignment. This means that the analysis report on the new submission should provide the same match hits as the previous submission.
If, on the other hand, the student submits supplementary documents in another assignment in Canvas, such as a re-exam, the document is treated by Ouriginal as entirely new. This can lead to matching hits in the analysis pointing to the student's previously submitted documents, which can be classified as self-plagiarism.
I want to avoid getting emails about every report that Ouriginal creates. What should I do?
If you don't want to receive an email for every report that Ouriginal creates, you'll need to adjust your email settings. The adjustments are made on Ouriginal's old login page; the new one does not have the email settings. Please note that the settings are applied both to submissions via the website and via Canvas.
Here's how to do it:
- Go to Ouriginal's old login page and log in with your KTH user.
- Make sure the email address ends in "@analys.urkund.se". If you have multiple email addresses, you can click on the email address and choose the right one from the list that pops up.
- Go to "Settings". You can find the button on the same line as your email address.
- Ensure the "Send report by email" box is not checked.
- Click "Update" to save your settings.
After completing these steps, you will no longer receive an email for each report.
If you choose not to receive an email, you can still read the report via Canvas and via login on Ouriginal's website.
