Access card and PIN code

You will need your access card and PIN code to enter KTH premises.

In addition to current global uncertainty, KTH has experienced repeated problems with unauthorized individuals entering its premises, resulting in recurring theft and vandalism.
To address this, KTH is implementing a requirement for both an access card and PIN code to enter its facilities — that is, your personal KTH access card and your unique four-digit PIN code. This change does not prevent authorized students or staff from entering but makes it more difficult for unauthorized individuals to gain access.

This change will remain in effect until further notice and will be implemented gradually during the summer and autumn of 2025. It is part of KTH’s Have the Courage to Ask campaign. KTH’s premises are large so the rollout will take place in phases.

If you have lost your access card or forgotten your PIN code, you will need to visit KTH Entré for support. We recommend doing this during the summer when queues are shorter. Please bring a valid ID.

The decision has been made by the Head of Safety and Security in accordance with the rules of procedure and delegation, which assign responsibility to:

  • manage access to the university’s premises and alarm/access control systems
  • oversee the security and surveillance of KTH premises and property
  • decide on physical security measures such as lockdowns, changes to access protocols, video surveillance, and expanded alarm systems
