Security Protection

Security Protection is about protecting information and capabilities that are important for Sweden's security against espionage, sabotage, terrorist activities and certain other threats. Some of activities conducted at KTH are or may become important for Sweden's national security and are therefore covered by the Security Protection Act.

The County Administrative Board (Länsstyrelsen) in Stockholm is KTH's supervisory authority for Security Protection.  In certain matters, the Swedish Security Service has supervisory responsibility for Security Protection at KTH.

Responsibility for the Security Protection at KTH

The Head of Security at KTH is responsible for the Security Protection activities at the university. KTH also has a Deputy Head of Security. The Head of Security reports to the President of KTH in matters relating to Security Protection. The Head of Security controls and supports the security protection work via a guideline and related guidance documents and advice.

What is Security Protection work?

The Security Protection work aims to ensure that capabilities and information that are of importance for Sweden's security are protected, based on current requirements in the following areas:

The basis for Security Protection at KTH is the obligation to conduct a security protection analysis. The analysis is to identify activities, capabilities or information that are of importance to Sweden's security . This should not be confused with protectable capabilities, activities or information that may be of importance to KTH. These protectable assets are covered by Operational Protection.

It may also happen that collaborating clients or research financiers extend requirements for KTH that relate to measures related to the Security Protection Act. In these cases, the security protection organisation at the Security and Safety Department (SSD) is responsible for receiving, coordinating and implementing these requirements together with the relevant entities at KTH.
