UN visits KTH to discuss circular economy
The United Nation body dealing with trade, investment and development issues raises circular economy on its agenda – and involves KTH.
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) have been cooperating with KTH for some years, and equipped with a new initiative and an upcoming research call, two representatives visited KTH May 10.
It was Henrique Pacini, who has a PhD at KTH's Energy Technology Department and now works as an expert at UNCTAD, who was invited to KTH together with his colleague Lucas Assunção and presented the new initiative and an upcoming research call. Within the project one should examine potential improvements in existing industry that can contribute to a more circular economy. The project is part of the Program for Sustainable Manufacturing and Environmental Pollution (SMEP), where UNCTAD acts as a strategic partner.
– We have previously been strong partners with UNCTAD and in 2012 we collaborated around the UN conference on sustainable development Rio + 20, says Semida Silveira, Professor at the Department of Energy and Climate Studies at the ITM School who attended the meeting.
At the end of the year, one can apply for funding of research projects and the Department of Energy Technology will be one of the applicants.
