Dear all,

I was happy to see that so many people joined the MMK meeting yesterday and the energy we saw at the workshops. The material is uploaded in the same area as the documents I distributed on June 1. In our RAE action plan, aka MMK development plan, which will be presented to ITM mgmt. next week and submitted to KTH mgmt. on Sept 30, we converge on the following:

  • CDS – complex dynamic systems: the establishment of the research field is ongoing, and we continue with the plan to recruit three faculty positions after the summer.
  • Impact – we still need to increase our awareness of mechanisms that lead to scientific and social impact so that we can improve in these areas. We now have a number of clear targets and ideas that can be implemented.
  • Research infrastructure – even though we are reducing physical spaces for research infrastructure, we still see potential in utilizing existing resources better.
  • Name – we will report to the KTH mgmt. that the search for a new name for MMK has been initiated, and, as it currently stands, we are searching for a new name that is based on the keywords “Engineering”, “Systems”, “Design” and perhaps “Science”.

The current version of the development plan is available in the same area (MMK spring-summer meeting June 8 2022).

Otherwise: today the departments of Industrial Production (IIP) and Sustainable Production Development (HPU) are having a full day-kick off to launch the merger of these two departments. We expect more info soon.

These weeks we see many PhD defense seminars, several new MMK Doctors to celebrate. Next week we also have our final Docent-lecture for the semester (Hanna Bernemyr, on Thursday).

The ice-cream machine turned out to have way too low capacity for MMK, a bitter-sweet realization. But, as someone mentioned at the late night party, perhaps that was for our own best.

Best,

Martin
