KTH Client Backup - Code42 Cloud

KTH provides backup client (Code42 Cloud) backup of the managed platforms KTH Mac and KTH Ubuntu laptops. The service can be ordered for other platforms.

KTH client backup

Data is often saved locally on computers (especially on laptops), which means that information is is in risk of getting lost or end up in the wrong hands if the computer is destroyed or lost. Backup of local data protects both individuals and KTH as organization from data loss.

KTH therefore provides backup with Code42 Cloud, which continuously backs up the computer's files as long as the computer is on and has access to the Internet.

Code42 Cloud is chosen because it is easy to use and you as an end user have control over your own backups, access to your data and the ability to reread at any time via a browser or client program.

We have chosen to save as much as possible on the computer - backup is not limited to individual directories. However, we exclude system files.

The backup client is automatically installed on computers with the KTH Mac services and KTH Ubuntu laptops. See more info below.

Who gets backup?

All employees have the opportunity to use KTH Client Backup with Code42 Cloud. However, it is no longer included as standard in all our platform services.

For users of KTH Mac and portable KTH Ubuntu, Code42 Cloud is included in the service for the time being.

Users of KTH Windows or completely self-administered operating systems need to order KTH Client Backup with Code42 Cloud as a separate service.

System Requirements

The computer must be running a modern Desktop operating system - server OS’ are handled differently and may not use this service. For more information, see Supported Operating Systems på Code42s webbplats (external link) .

KTH Windows

The Windows environment uses roaming profiles / folder redirection to copy certain directories to central file servers. For laptops, it is recommended that you use OneDrive to duplicate and sync your files to the cloud. If you still want a backup, you can order the service for your computer.

KTH Mac

KTH Macs automatically get Code42 installed for all registered users.

KTH Ubuntu

Laptops and other computers with local home directories get the Code42 client.

However, most KTH Ubuntu clients are desktops with network home directories stored on file servers (in AFS). Backups are therefore only made to order if you have locally stored research data.

Other operating systems

For clients that are not centrally managed, you can order KTH Client Backup as a separate service. See Ordering IT products .

The client must meet Code42's Code42:s system requirements (external link) . Backups of servers are not supported, only of end-user devices.

Data Security

KTH meets the EU requirements for GDPR with the backup service via Code42.

All storage and communication between client and Code42's servers is encrypted.
