A night to remember: The annual SCI School Party
The SCI School Party is always a delightful blend of academia and amusement. This year, the event took place on the 4th June at Restaurant Proviant. With over 200 attendees, the party was the talk of the corridors at SCI.
The festivities kicked off with a lab visit at the Department of Engineering Mechanics. Guests were treated to a tour of the state-of-the-art research infrastructure and got an insider's look at some of the most intriguing ongoing projects.
By 17:00, everyone arrived to the restaurant’s rooftop terrace where the mingling began. Sunshine and small talk flowed freely, as did the laughter. The "Mingle Bingo" was a particular highlight – a game that involved “challenging” questions. How challenging, you ask? Well, let’s just say it’s not every day you find yourself asking a colleague about their hidden talents or if they could fly an airplane.
Head of School Sandra Di Rocco greeted everyone with welcoming words, setting the tone for the evening.
The three-course dinner was a delight, with lively conversations and laughter echoing from every table. What followed was the presentation of the Gudmund Borelius Medal, that really stole the show. This year’s recipient, Gunnar Tibert, was honored for his significant contributions to the school’s education through his forward-looking, supportive, and analytical leadership. Congratulations, Gunnar!
Sandra then delivered a heartfelt goodbye speech to her vice dean, Mark Pearce, who will be finishing his duties at the end of the summer.
After dinner, Lüders band – a talented group of mainly SCI school PhD students – took to the stage and rocked the house. As the night wore on, a DJ took over, spinning tunes that kept some on their feet until the stroke of midnight.
The SCI School Party ended as all good parties should – with tired feet, new memories, and the promise of doing it all over again next year.
