We are looking for the new member of the SCI Newsletter team!

An exciting year as an editor of the Newsletter has come to an end for me.

Danai Deligeorgaki

My experience

What I have liked about the Newsletter is that it gives you the opportunity to interact, and sometimes meet in depth through the interviews, with people from different departments in a variety of positions. This has given me a better understanding of how our School works, who are the people in it, and how they are improving our School with their work at different levels. Everything is important for the Newsletter: research achievements, teaching accomplishments, new projects starting and any news worth sharing with the members of the School of Engineering Sciences.

The task

Together with a PhD student of the team, I was responsible for conducting interviews with members of the School chosen by the Newsletter team. We also took charge of writing articles about different topics, either by asking for a specialist’s input or by visiting a facility and talking with the people there.

After collecting all the material from interviews, articles, as well as the input from the rest of the Newsletter team, we would begin the publication procedure. There, we organise the material in the system Apsis, which is an easy tool to build and share the Newsletter, make some final checks and share the Newsletter with the rest of our School.

Compensation

This position is estimated at 10% of the work time in a full-time occupation. As a PhD student in a position with 20% teaching duties, I chose to deduct this percentage from my teaching time. After a year in the Newsletter team, I have decided to leave this position to return to teaching.

Final thoughts

I believe that this experience has helped me understand more about the environment in an academic institution and will be useful in the future. I encourage everyone that could be interested to contact the Newsletter team and ask any questions!

Keep in mind that all the material in the Newsletter is in English and therefore competence in English is necessary for this role.
