Faculty Board begins work with new decision and delegation scheme
The school's newly appointed Faculty Board held its first meeting last week.
Vice-chair Pernilla Hagbert is happy with the launch.
"The first meeting was characterised by a positive atmosphere and high expectations. Specifically, we focused on adopting a new decision and delegation scheme based on the board's decision-making rights. We have chosen to re-delegate tasks to free up time, with the aim of both focusing on strategically important issues and avoiding the need for the board to take decisions in individual cases. During the spring, the board's work will focus on the school's education, and from the autumn it will also handle faculty recruitment and research. Discussions about possible committees are also on the agenda, and we are considering how the board should organise its work. Developing and shaping something that has not existed before is an exciting task. It feels great to have begun the work!"
Assignment: Proposals for education councils
The Board has given the school's Director for First and Second Cycle Education (GA) and Deputy Director for First and Second Cycle Education (Deputy GA), as well as the Director for Third Cycle Education (FA) and Deputy Director for Third Cycle Education (Deputy FA) (once appointed), the task to submit proposals on forms for one or more councils for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral education.
"The idea is that pedagogical development, course development and subject development should be addressed in these councils. Each proposal should include, among other things, who convenes/leads, who is proposed to be included, and the frequency of meetings. The responsible functions will present their respective proposals in April, and the existing organisation with quality councils for first/second cycle and doctoral education will remain until a new organisation is decided", says Pernilla.
Focus on collegial dialogue and exchange
"In my role as vice-chair, I have a specific responsibility to coordinate and strengthen collegial dialogue at the school, especially now that the formal School Faculty Assembly no longer exists. It will be exciting to see how we can develop the forms of collegial exchange and dialogue, and we will come back with more information. As vice-chair, I will also meet regularly with my counterparts from the other KTH schools together with the Dean to discuss shared issues."
