EECS recently hosted its new annual internal kick-off event, marking the start of the academic year with a renewed focus on research. With topics ranging from sustainability research to cybersecurity, the event served as a platform for reconnecting after the summer break and setting the stage for impactful research in the months ahead.

This fall semester, we established a new annual kick-off event focused on research: EECS Research & Impact Day. Led by Lina Bertling Tjernberg, Deputy Head of School EECS.

“It’s a way to bring everyone together as we start back up after the summer break, recharged and aligned. Our goal is to spotlight important themes in research while fostering a strong sense of community across our departments”, Lina says.

A central theme was resilience, autonomous systems and sustainability, which strongly focused on how these connect to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and impact and possibilities of artificial intelligence was discussed duringthe panel sessions.

“We also explored topics like cybersecurity and its implications for sustainable development. It’s crucial that our research addresses the complex challenges our world faces, and this event highlighted ongoing efforts in sustainability research across KTH,” she continues.

The event is meant to set the tone for the academic year, reminding us of our shared mission and the importance of collaboration.

“By focusing on these key areas—sustainability, resilience, and emerging cybersecurity challenges—we’re enhancing our research impact and aligning with global priorities. I’m excited to see how the ideas and connections sparked here will drive our work forward in the coming months. And, it is amazing how much brilliant research is being made by our colleagues at EECS!” Lina finishes.
