Three recruitment procedures initiated and nominating committee on its way
The faculty board's January meeting
The first faculty board meeting of the year included, among other things, three recruitment cases and a discussion on how the nominating committee for the faculty board should be established. The committee is also tasked with proposing candidates for the positions of head of school and deputy head of school for the president’s decision.
If nothing unexpected occurs, the ABE School will soon be reinforced with a guest professor, an associate professor, and an affiliated faculty. The faculty board decided to initiate recruitment procedures for all three positions.
Tommy Shih, currently a senior lecturer in marketing at Lund University, is intended to be appointed as a guest professor in technology and geopolitics at the Department of Real Estate and Construction Management. His research includes international research collaboration, national and regional security, knowledge exchange, and strategic power plays. Tommy Shih is expected to deepen the understanding of these important and current issues at the department, the ABE School, and KTH as a whole. The next step in the recruitment process is an expert review, with the goal of having Tommy Shih in place during the spring. The guest professorship will be full-time for two years, with the possibility of extension, and is fully funded by external sources.
Magdalena Małecka brings with her an ongoing ERC Consolidator Grant to the Department of Philosophy and History, where she will be employed as an associate professor in philosophy of science and technology. Her project, titled “Encoded Knowledge: Epistemology of Computer Technology in Modern Economics (ENCODED),” explores how and to what extent computer technology shapes the subject matter, questions and methods of modern economics. Magdalena Małecka has previously been active at, among others, the universities of Copenhagen, Aarhus, and Helsinki.
Ingvar Mattsson, senior advisor in sustainability at Swedbank, will become an affiliated faculty in risk management at the Department of Philosophy and History within the framework of his current employment. He will dedicate 20 percent of his time over three years to a research project at the department.
Another issue discussed was how to make it clearer how pedagogical skill should be assessed in connection with applications for docentship. The Faculty Board wishes for greater predictability in how such applications are handled.
As is known, a number of positions of trust will be appointed at the ABE School in 2026. The work has begun by selecting the nominating committee that will propose candidates for the positions of heads of school and faculty board members. During the board meeting, the requirements profile and composition were discussed. At the next school meeting, on Tuesday, 10 February, the faculty board will inform about the process and present its proposal for the nomination committee. At that time, the faculty will have the opportunity to comment on the composition before a decision is made two weeks later.
