Parental leave

Before you start

  • If you are on 100% parental leave you can submit one application covering the entire leave period.

  • If you are on part-time parental leave, the process depends on the length of the leave:

  • Less than 14 days: You need to register each day individually, including the specific hours you are absent.

  • More than 14 days: You can submit one application covering the full period, including the percentage of leave.

  • If you plan to work fewer than 5 days per week, you must fill in a work schedule. See the link here. (In swedish)

When the child has not been born

When applying for parental leave before the expected due date, you first need to register personal details  by entering a name and date of birth. You can, for example, enter “Child 1” as the name and register the expected due date, and then update the information once you have decided on the child’s name and know the actual date of birth.

New from September 1st 2025:

As of 1 September 2025, the absence type Parental Leave will be divided into two separate categories:

  • Parental leave, child up to 3 years

  • Parental leave, child from 3 years

Entries already registered will be adjusted to the correct absence type. However, all new entries must be registered under the appropriate category.
If your child turns three during an ongoing period of parental leave, the leave period must be split accordingly.

Step by step

1. Click on ”Add”

2. Choose ”Absence”

3. Choose cause ”Föräldraledig/barn under 3 år (parental leave child under 3y)” or ”Föräldraledig/barn över 3 år (parental leave child over 3y)” and enter the date(s) when you will be on parental leave. Select the child for whom you are taking parental leave (the children you have registered will be shown here. If no child is listed, follow the guide Register personal information  to enter your children’s dates of birth under “Add family members”). Click “Save”.

4. If you are on part‑time parental leave for more than 14 days, tick “Regarding partial time off”. Enter the percentage of your absence. A comment is also required, for example “Leave on Fridays” or “spread over the week”

  • If you plan to work fewer than 5 days per week, you must fill in a work schedule. See the link here.  (In swedish)
