Wellness

As a manager, you play a key role in creating a safe and healthy work environment. KTH's work environment policy provides clear guidelines for preventing illness and accidents. The wellness allowance and wellness hour are valuable tools for strengthening employees' health.

Prevent illness and promote well-being in the workplace

The guidelines on work environment  include sections on prevention, which is also a requirement under the Work Environment Act (arbetsmiljölagen). The opportunities to use the wellness allowance and wellness hour are part of this work. Encourage your employees to use the wellness hour by asking them to schedule it in their calendars so that it doesn't get deprioritized. By combining physical activity, mental health, and a good work environment, you can help employees feel better and get more out of their work life. This also leads to greater creativity and better work results.

Promote health and well-being – tips for managers

  • Encourage active breaks during the workday where employees can take short walks or stretch.
  • Create an open culture by encouraging employees to talk about their health and stress levels. This kind of open dialogue can reduce the stigma of mental illness.
  • Remind employees to take “walk-and-talk” meetings when possible, and to join video meetings while walking if it works for the meeting.
  • As a manager, if possible, lead by example by participating in healthy activities yourself. Showing commitment to employees' health helps create a culture where wellness is taken seriously.
