Dear all,

This week many people have returned to work after a summer holiday, me included. I hope everyone has been able to have a holiday and enjoy things outside the KTH bubble.

On Tuesday to Wednesday I joined the Mechatronics group for a visit to the Mechatronics department at Aalto University in Helsinki. It was interesting to see the huge experimental facilities, maker spaces, innovation offices, “Design Factory” and all the saunas. My take was that the Mechatronics department at Aalto had more experimental equipment and facilities than the entire ITM school, which is really important to consider in our challenging times with increased costs for rent etc.

I also followed on distance the internal conference by the SKD unit on Wednesday to Thursday (mentally, not digitally), and I’m happy to learn that there are so many things going on regarding educational development and research collaboration.

The IPD people are making the third floor a happy place to be at, with a lot of enthusiasm regarding upcoming PhD defenses, new research funding, new collaborations and research ideas.

Today we wrapped up the week with three large cakes on the sunny rooftop terrace.

With that said, it feels really good to be back.

Best,

Martin
