KTH Server certificate

Information about the "Server Certificate" service. The service is available to selected employees at KTH for the domain "kth.se".

Description

KTH Server certificate is a service that enables secure communication between server and clients, e.g. browser and a web server. It can also be used to sign e-mail communications and personal logins to web servers.

The certificates are provided via Sunet TCS/GÉANT and the certificate provider is Sectigo whose root certificate is usually pre-installed in operating systems and browsers. The service is available from 2020-05-01 and replaces the previous service where the certificates were delivered by DigiCert.

KTH Server certificates are used to ensure that a user is connected to the correct server. This connection will be made securely so that no eavesdropping can take place and the content cannot be changed on the way. The most common example is web servers, where connection is usually made via port 443. Other examples are IMAP, LDAP, XMPP, SQL databases, etc.
